At some point in most people’s lives, they will need to sell their home and move to a new property. There is a wide range of reasons for doing this. It may be that you are starting a family and need a bigger home with more rooms or that a new job with improved salary and career prospects necessitates the move to a new area. It may even be that you wish to sell the starter home that was your first purchase and move up the housing ladder. Regardless of the reason for moving, it makes perfect sense to plan and organize the transfer of your home possessions well ahead of moving day. This will ensure that everything goes smoothly and stresses or unexpected problems are kept to a minimum. In this article, three top tips for planning the movement of your possessions will be discussed.

Mark every box

As a first point, it is of paramount importance that you pack your possessions securely and label them effectively so that you know exactly what is in each box. It can be exceptionally frustrating and time-consuming to get to your new home and have to search through multiple boxes to find key items. Best practice is to label each box with a general description of the contents or even a complete list of all the items within. Mark any boxes as fragile if they contain goods that could be easily broken if dropped. This will highlight such items to the removals staff if you intend to hire a company to help with your move. In addition, remember to put arrows on every box pointing to the direction they should be stacked, especially if they contain liquids or items that need to be kept upright.

For heavy and bulky items

Many homes will have a range of extremely bulky items that provide challenges when moving or lifting them. A prime example is for homes that have a pool table in their gaming room. Pool tables can be extremely bulky and heavy to lift, so it makes sense to search online for pool table movers who have experience in moving such heavy items safely and the transport to facilitate the move. Such companies will have trained staff who will be on hand to lift the table into their transport which can help to ensure that you do not injure yourself whilst attempting to lift such a heavy piece of equipment.

In your new home

As part of finding your next home, it is expected that you will have taken the full range of steps needed in the home-buying process, such as viewing the property and securing a mortgage. When you have completed all the contract documents and have secured the purchase of the property, it can be the perfect time to visit your new home again before moving day. Take a good look around every room and take measurements of the room dimensions. This will help you to plan what items will go in various rooms and help you feel confident that any large or bulky items will be able to fit in their new locations.
